Using HSI to access HPSS files from IU Research Systems

HSI is a flexible, powerful, and user-friendly interface utility to HPSS. HSI contains commands that look and act like those in ftp and pftp (e.g. put and mput), and also like standard Unix file manipulation commands (e.g. mv, mkdir, rm, cp, cd, etc.). It also has many commands that resemble those in CFS. This gives a mix of command formats and actions, offering power and flexibility. For instance, HSI allows the relocation of entire subdirectories within HPSS with a single command; this task is tedious and inefficient to achieve with ftp/pftp.

HSI can be used in several ways: in interactive HSI sessions, like ftp/pftp; via single-line, multiple-action commands, called "one-liners"; and in batch scripts. (One-liners can be used in either interactive or batch contexts.) HSI can be configured to do automatic DCE authentication from systems with DCE installed.

More information regarding HPSS can be found at the DSSG web site.
